In all cases use common sense and common courtesy when playing at Knowhere. If a player is unsure about anything they should speak to the mods before proceeding. We are very approachable people and are here to help in any and all ways. No question is a dumb question. Keep in mind that the mods reserve the right to alter or change any of the rules outlined below at anytime during the game as needed.
Knowhere has a zero tolerance policy for drama. If the mods find out that a player is causing problems in the game OOCly or ICly the mods will intervene. A player will be given one warning before being asked to leave the game.
A line exists between our OOC world and the IC world. Things that a player knows OOCly should never be reflected in what a character knows ICly. This goes both ways. Any emotions or opinions that a player has about another player or character OOCly should never be reflected in how their characters treat that player's ICly. All interactions between characters should be kept IC and developed naturally.
Powergaming will not be tolerated at Knowhere. Players will be given one warning about powergaming before being asked the leave the game.
Like in any game communication is key. It is vital to keep in constant communication with both storyline partners and the mods. Any plot that would affect another character in-game should be discussed with storyline partners first. Additionally, a discussion should be struck up before a player holds a character that has strong ties to a character already in game. We have made this process as easy as possible by creating a new character contact page. Please utilize it.
Activity check is an important part of any game. It is in place to ensure that characters are being played regularly and working towards the continued success of the game overall. Activity checks happen once a month at the end of the month and we require characters to have 3 pieces of activity each in order to pass. A piece of activity is defined as follows:
We understand that real life comes first and this is a hobby for everyone. All we ask in return is for players to be as communicative as possible when taking a prolonged hiatus from the game so we know what's going on. Please visit the drop box page to request a hiatus and review the specific hiatus rules.
Knowhere is an intergalactic superhero and supernatural game with an emphasis on science fiction and fringe science. That means most game-wide plots here will play on things like wars, government conspiracies, alien invasions, cracks in the universe and mind-blowing science. All plots should be kept within the premise of the game. If a player has a question as to whether a plot or a character would be welcome at Knowhere they should speak to the mods.
This game is rated R and no one under the age of 17 will be permitted to play. Rated R means there is use of strong language, violence, drug use and sexual content. This game is not for the faint of heart as some characters come with trigger-heavy background and that may be something they will need to deal with in-game. Still, in such cases we ask that trigger-heavy plots be treated with the utmost respect. Anything that could be considered triggering should be labeled as such and placed behind an LJ-cut. Things like violence, rape, suicide, death, incest, abuse, miscarriages, premature births etc should all be placed behind a cut and labeled with a warning. If any one player needs to be reminded about placing trigger-heavy content behind a cut the mods will take action.
knowhereic - This is the in character journal. All in character actions are kept in this one journal to keep things organized. Things like network communications, logs, text messages, phone calls and e-mails are all welcome here. Keep in mind that all posts must be tagged with the character name.
When creating a new character for Knowhere there are a few things to keep in mind. Mary Sues or Gary Stus are not allowed and will not be accepted, this is especially important to keep in mind when writing AU versions of character.
A player must have read and/or seen the canon of a character (au or canon) before placing a hold. Additionally the canon point may only be placed up to the point in canon the player has seen or read. A character may have their canon updated once the player has caught up or once new canon for that character has been released by going here.
The mods reserve the right to determine the eligibility of all powers and abilities for this game. In the case that a character has a power or ability that should not be used in game a "spell" will be placed on that character. The spell will prevent the character from using that particular power or ability. At this time it is unknown where or how the spell was placed on the characters or if it will ever be lifted.
Played bys should be ethnically appropriate. This is done on a case-by-case basis as in many cases (especially anime) ethnicity isn't entirely obvious. All Played bys should be kept within the canon age-range of a character. There may be no two of the same played bys in any single fandom (unless used as twins). If a player is unsure about a played by or is unable to find an appropriate played by they may speak to the mods for help.
Every post in the IC community must be tagged with the character's name. This is to help players keep track of activity and for everyone to be able to easily keep track of characters. The mods will assign a tag to each character upon acceptance into the game. The mods are the only people who can create, change or delete tags. If a tag ever needs to be changed for any reason it may be done here. Additionally, in the same place tags can be removed from posts. Since the IC community encompasses all types of communications, please be sure to mark what sort of communication it is in the post itself.
LJ-cuts should be utilized when posting long blocks of text, pictures, gifs, spoilers or trigger warnings. This is simply to keep the community looking neat and tidy as well as to protect players from content that may be triggering, spoilery or that may slow down their connection.
The following format should be utilized when posting a log to the community. This is simply to keep everything uniform.
